A bit about Exobyte
My name is Rich Woods, I work as a systems administrator and in my spare time I design and program computer games.
I started writing games as a kid in my bedroom, typing in code listings from magazines into a ZX Spectrum. It wasn't long before I started writing my own games, one of those being the original version of Cherry Chaser.
Since then game design has always been a passion of mine. I've designed and created countless board games, role playing games and computer games. Computers offer the greatest potential for gaming, they provide you with an entirely independent and objective referee and have the ability to present the gaming experience in ways that are impossible through any other medium.
There is an undefinable quality to gameplay that makes it an art. The best games have just the right amount of uncertainty, competition and surprise in them that makes the experience fun for everybody, even those that don't win. Finding that perfect balance is my goal. And perhaps learning how to make the most enjoyable games will also give us ideas on how to make the most enjoyable lives for ourselves.
I live in East Anglia with my beautiful wife Jennifer, our cats and horses. Jen is a Natural Horsemanship Instructor. She is also a partner in Exobyte games and is heavily involved in the production and marketing side of things.
