Plasma Duel Arcade Fun!

Picture
The next project for Exobyte is a new version of Plasma Duel for Android phones.  There are some major updates to this version including different level designs.

The game will take advantage of Android's multitouch capability to allow two players to play against each other on the same device.  For this reason the game will be targeted at tablet devices and Android 2.0 and above.

Now that Cherry Chaser and Super Snake are finished Plasma Duel will be ported to Android and after that work will begin on Quest Cards.

In development - Coming soon for Android

The goal of Plasma Duel is to defend your wall of bricks and attempt to destroy the bricks in your opponent's wall. Both walls contain gold bricks that will release special powers such as increasing your bat size or giving you lasers.

Quest Cards RPG

Picture
Quest Cards will be a card based board game that will implement a simple Role Playing Game (RPG).  It will take its visual style from board games and the intention is to make the touch interface as easy to use as possible.  A key characteristic of the game is that all of the objects that act in the game take the form of “cards”.  Cards are used to represent the player, his allies, items, abilities, opponents and quests.  The other main element is the “board” which is constructed from tiles.  A complete board will be made of a grid of randomly placed tiles with interlocking features such as paths and walls.

Work will begin on Quest Cards once the porting of Plasma Duel to Android has been completed.

Nova Dawn Vehicle Combat Game

Picture
Development of Nova Dawn began in 2005, the game was developed for two years and reached a quite advanced stage.  At that point I suspended development in order to focus on the Windows Mobile version of Plasma Duel.

Nova Dawn offers a top down view of a vehicle which you drive around and the aim is to explore the large map and gather resources in order to gain better equipment and compete with vehicles from other factions.  The ultimate goal being to make your own faction the dominant power in the territory.

I hope to resume work on Nova Dawn as an Android project in 2014.

Nova Dawn is a car based exploration and combat game for Windows Mobile that was about 60% complete.

Development was put on hold in 2007 as the underlying game library was not fully compatible with newer versions of Windows Mobile.  Future development of Nova Dawn will continue on Android.

Features that have been implemented include day/night cycles, weather, weapons and different terrain that affects how your vehicle handles.  The world is procedurally generated and also has a procedurally generated road network linking up all of the bases. The cars are built from components and have a detailed damage model that allows individual parts to be damaged.

Various items and materials are scattered around the map for the player to scavenge and use to make better cars, engines and weapons.  Remaining work includes inventory management, production in the bases and the AI for the competing factions.

More information about Nova Dawn can be found in the original Nova Dawn Development Journal.
